Ok so I am a born muslim Dutch girl and I currently live in Amsterdam. When I first started University here in 2010, my father filled in the loan form where he asked for a maximum loan. As I didn't know much about riba and that a loan is haram when the pay back is with interest, I kept it until it reached a big amount. Approx 10.000 euros. Anyways, I stopped the loan the moment I read and knew about riba and I read that it is even worse than Zina (Fornication). I became religious lately and I spend my days and nights crying about what I have done. I am a student so paying everythng back right now is impossible. I don't want to die in this state...what should I do? are my prayers and good deeds invalid because of the loan? What can I do to make it right? I do repent all the time...
I hope and jazakoum allah khayran, give me an answer and help me please !
Looking forward to some helpful responses
I am glad that you have stopped taking the loan when you found that it is forbidden and because of your this good deed and trust in Allah (S.W.T), I pray that Allah (S.W.T) will make your father able to repay the debts.
First thing is that, your father is bound to pay the debts back so he is accountable in front of Allah (S.W.T) but yes I know that in this world the bank will ask you after your father to pay back the loan. But if your father also didn't know that riba is forbidden in Islam and he wants to correct himself then there are few things which he can do to ask Allah's help in repaying the debts, you can find the details here
And for increase in Sustenance
Whatever written of Truth and benefit is only due to Allah’s Assistance and Guidance, and whatever of error is of me alone. Allah Alone Knows Best and He is the Only Source of Strength.
Be in constant repentence, and do uprights deeds because this will tipe your scale of good deeds to a higher extent.
“O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah and give up what remains (due to you) from riba (from now onward) if you are (really) believers.
And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allah and His Messenger but if you repent, you shall have your capital sums. Deal not unjustly (by asking more than your capital sums), and you shall not be dealt with unjustly (by receiving less than your capital sums)”
What the one who has taken out a riba-based loan has to do is repent to Allah and regret what he has done, and he has to resolve firmly not to go back to this great sin and serious crime, concerning which there is narrated a warning such as has not been narrated concerning any other sin. I ask Allah to keep us safe and sound.
But if you fear harm and problems if you do not pay the interest, then pay it, and repent to Allah and feel dislike towards this great evil.
