Hi Everyone, I am the CEO of the company that makes the software this site is running. I just wanted to mention that some of the issues mentioned above would easily be solved by using our professional system, AnswerHub instead of our junior-level system, OSQA. Learn more about AnswerHub's features here... For example, AnswerHub provides support for "spaces" to allow you to have different areas of your Q&A site devoted to different topics. AnswerHub provides automatic integration with the major social networks like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn - a must-have for today's socially connected web. AnswerHub also provides greater control over permissions and privileges, and AnswerHub has much more powerful administrative and security features. AnswerHub supports the idea of "groups" which can be used to restrict access to private areas or give special capabilities to trusted members. The search features of AnswerHub really show the difference between our junior and professional systems. With AnswerHub, search is instant and dynamic. In many cases, the user finds his question has previously been answered while he is still typing in a question. There's simply no comparison. I would love to see Islam.com become a fantastic resource for sharing wisdom and knowledge about one of the world's greatest religions. It seems quite clear to me that your community would be much better off with AnswerHub than with OSQA. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance. Thanks, and best of luck and success with Islam.com! Rick Ross |

One issue with tagging is that there are often multiple tags, each valid in their own right, that refer to exactly the same thing. For example, I have been doing a lot of cleaning up of tags like:
It is better for things like this to be combined into one tag so that they can all be found in the same search (I would usually just choose the most popular tag and edit all others to match). I'm not sure if the moderator tools on this site allow anything like tag synonyms; if they do, many of the above examples would be prime candidates to prevent the problem from recurring. |

goldPseudo- does look like a good solution. the problem is that this requires a crowdsourcing solution (the development of this website is not open-source). 1
@ understood. just tossed the idea out there since i'm not sure exactly what framework you're using for the site (it looks like OSQA, which I know doesn't support synonyms, but superficial similarities are easy to replicate.) |

I would also point out the tags "Islam" and "Muslim" probably aren't very useful, since any question that's not about Islam and muslims somehow probably doesn't belong on the site at all.
