jenny: Let me put it this way...
Now outside of the above three situations or something akin to it, you can count on me, and any other honest Muslim worth his/her salt, to speak the truth at all times. The Qur'an says, "Stand up for the truth and justice, even if it is against your own selves. The real ones practicing deceit, lying, and concealment of agenda are the ones who are always accusing Muslims of doing it. It is the Pamela Gellars, the Walid Shoebats, the Pat Robertons, the John Hagees, the Robert Spencers, etc., who would love to deport every Muslim from the U.S. back to a Muslim country, close or destroy every single mosque in the U.S., prohibit all Muslim organizations from operating on U.S. soil, and nuke Mecca and Madina. But they will never say these things publicly, because they realize that it would be politically correct and viewed as extremist, so they conceal their true feelings and opinions. And in some ways, this is understandable; they must be politically shrewd and strategic in the way they work. Very few of us will go out and yell out all our political feelings and prejudices on the public street. I hope this clarifies and puts things in context. |

Shaddad bin Aus (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "A wise man is the one who calls himself to account (and refrains from doing evil deeds) and does noble deeds to benefit him after death; and the foolish person is the one who subdues himself to his temptations and desires and seeks from Allah the fulfillment of his vain desires". [At-Tirmidhi]. Commentary: This Hadith highlights the importance of the accountability of one's self. Mere desires which are not coupled with practical efforts are of no avail because Allah grants reward on good deeds and not on yearnings and desires which are not supported by noble actions. |

Well, from what I know in Shia Islam you can lie when under threat or persecution. It's called taqiyya. The thing is what can be considered as a "threat" or "persecution". |

In my last post, "politically correct" should have been "politically incorrect". |

friend forget this shia muslim and sunni muslim.we should stay united every where. lying is prohibited in islam unless and until you have a reasonable reason to lie for. |
Do the Ten Commandments have no effect on those of you answering as if lying is acceptable in certain situations? |
Lying is allowed in Islam in only three conditions- 1)If ones life is in danger 2)For solving a dispute between two persons 3)A husband praising his wife to make her feel good |
